Mark J. Zimmermann is the Chairman of the Firm’s Environmental Practice Group. He joined the Firm in 1981 and represents the Firm’s environmental clients in a wide variety of environmental matters at the federal, state and local levels. His practice includes experience in the areas of environmental permitting, compliance, litigation and enforcement matters. He has extensive experience in transactional matters relating to the Connecticut Transfer Act, real estate transactions, environmental site assessments and cleanups, and the development of contaminated properties. Over the years he has represented numerous clients in administrative matters and hearings before the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and numerous Connecticut state agencies, including the Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Health Services, the Siting Council and the Department of Public Utility Control. Mr. Zimmermann works closely with the Firm’s commercial lending, real estate, banking and workout clients on the environmental aspects of their transactions, including interaction with governmental officials and due diligence for many complex transactions involving hazardous, industrial and solid waste issues.
Mr. Zimmermann is a frequent author and speaker on environmental issues and has participated as a member of the faculty at numerous environmental seminars sponsored by various trade and environmental organizations.
Mr. Zimmermann is a member of various professional and community organizations, including the Connecticut Business and Industry Association’s Environmental Policies Council, the Connecticut Environmental Forum, the Connecticut Bar Association’s Environmental Law Section and the American Arbitration Association’s Environmental Advisory Committee. He has served on the Hazardous Waste and Toxic Torts Law and Strategy Board of Editors, the State of Connecticut Superfund Task Force’s Legislative Appointee and was a member of Leadership Greater Hartford.
Mr. Zimmermann received his J.D., cum laude, from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana and his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
