Donald R. Seifel has extensive experience in all aspects of federal and state individual income, estate and gift tax planning as well as federal and state corporate income tax planning. Mr. Seifel has represented both publicly traded companies, closely-held business owners, executives, professionals including accountants, lawyers and physicians, and other individuals in various commercial, business and estate planning transactions, including representation of clients in asset and stock sales and purchases, mergers and reorganizations; redemptions; formation and liquidation of corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies; conventional and asset based commercial financings; shareholder buy-sell agreements; partnership and limited liability company operating agreements; employment contracts, employee fringe benefit plans and qualified and non- qualified retirement and compensation arrangements; IRA planning; and commercial real estate financings, purchases, sales and leases.
Mr. Seifel has also represented numerous individual clients and families in estate planning matters, including wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, charitable trusts, formation of pubic charities, private foundations, split-dollar arrangements, UTMA and UGMA planning and 529 plans; gift planning; estate administration and other probate matters; and preparation of federal and state gift tax returns, federal estate and state succession tax returns as well as federal and state income tax returns.
Mr. Seifel has substantial experience in state sales and use tax planning and has represented numerous clients in state sales and use tax audits and appeals. Mr. Seifel also has significant experience in tax litigation before federal and state courts, the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities and agencies.
Mr. Seifel is a member of the Tax and Real Estate and Probate Sections of the American and Connecticut Bar Associations. He is a member of the Connecticut Estate and Tax Planning Council.
He received his L.L.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law in New York City, his J.D. from the Boston University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts, and his B.A. in political science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
