Thomas A. Gugliotti, a principal in the Firm's Hartford office, is Chair of the Firm's Creditors' Rights practice, where he focuses his practice on creditors' rights, including all aspects of bankruptcy law, representation under Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code, workouts, restructuring, foreclosures, real estate litigation, commercial lease and franchise disputes. Mr. Gugliotti represents many banks, insurance companies, lending institutions, commercial lessors, franchisors and title insurance companies in a variety of proceedings relating to those subjects. In addition, Mr. Gugliotti is often called upon by his peers to serve as a private mediator and arbitrator, in addition to serving as a court appointed mediator.
Mr. Gugliotti is certified in commercial bankruptcy law by the American Board of Certification and is frequently invited to be a speaker and panelist for various professional groups on the subjects of bankruptcy, real estate title, foreclosure and repossession law.
Mr. Gugliotti is a contributor to the pre-eminent treatise on Connecticut foreclosure law, Connecticut Foreclosures, Caron, Third and Fourth Editions, having written and edited the chapter on bankruptcy law and foreclosures. He is a contributor to the Connecticut Standards of Title, having served on a special committee that re-wrote the standards chapter on bankruptcy law. He has authored several articles on the standards of title and bankruptcy law, as well as developments in bankruptcy law and foreclosures in Connecticut.
He is actively involved in various professional and community associations and organizations. He is the past Chairman of the Connecticut Bar Association Section on Commercial Law and Bankruptcy, having also served as that group's Treasurer and Vice Chairman, while also serving as a long-time member of that Section's Executive Committee. He was chairman of the Section's subcommittee delegation to the Connecticut Standards of Title Committee. He is an approved member of the Panel of Volunteer Mediators for the Hartford Bankruptcy Court, and a member of the Hartford County Bar Association's Executive Committee for the Commercial Law Section. He is a frequent speaker on the subjects of bankruptcy law, foreclosures, creditors' rights, mechanic's liens, title insurance and real estate title issues.
Mr. Gugliotti is an elected member of the Town of Avon, Board of Finance, where he has served for over 12 years. He has been a member of the Avon Charter Revision Commission, and a special committee on Avon Education Department facilities review committee.
Mr. Gugliotti received his J.D. degree, cum laude from the Suffolk University School of Law in Boston in 1975, while serving as a staff member of a special Commission of the Massachusetts legislature. He received his B.A. degree from Fairfield University in 1971. Mr. Gugliotti currently serves as Chair of the Firm's Professional Committee.
